TOBIN CENTER

SAN ANTONIO, TX

The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts is a world-class performing arts facility located along the Museum Reach of the San Antonio Riverwalk. Formerly the Municipal Auditorium, the 1926 historical front façade was preserved while the remainder of the facility was demolished and replaced by a newer, larger and more technologically advanced facility. A large multi-purpose plaza space overlooks the Riverwalk and the front of the facility offers additional flexible event space.

Connecting the Riverwalk to the north of the Tobin Center and the Veterans Memorial Plaza to the south is the Medal of Honor River Portal. A series of pedestrian steps and sloped walks combine to overcome fifteen feet of vertical grade change across the site. A progression of stone and bronze monuments recognize Medal of Honor recipients with San Antonio ties.

Rialto Studio developed the concept for the site, and along with Marmon Mok Architects, documented the design and oversaw its construction. Completed, this facility is a new landmark of the San Antonio Riverwalk and skyline.
