SAN PEDRO CREEK CULTURE PARK
SAN ANTONIO, TX
Located along the formerly degraded San Pedro Creek, a multi-phase linear park will restore the natural creek habitat, aid in flood control, improve water quality, and provide pedestrian amenities throughout the western edge of downtown San Antonio. A 10 foot wide trail will provide multi-modal access throughout the project, connecting pocket parks and pedestrian nodes to city streets and other points of interest. The project will be embellished with public art installations by local artists. Our work has included the integration of 5 different artists, ranging from tiles, benches, and word art integrated into hardscape features to a unique shade structure to a huge sculpture that dialogues with LID stormwater treatment facilities. San Pedro Creek also began as a collaboration with another Landscape Architect, Mario Schjetnan.
Phases 1.1 and 1.2 were completed by others, 1.3 and 2 were completed and opened to the public in October 2022, Phase 3 is under design and Phase 4 was completed in October 2023. Rialto Studio is supporting Ford, Powell & Carson and the prime consultant, HDR Inc., with landscape architecture, site planning, hardscape design, and planting and irrigation design. Rialto has worked alongside Ecosystem Planning and Restoration LLC on low impact development (LID) feature design.
