CAN PLANT

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Located at the renovated Pearl Brewery, Can Plant Apartment Homes resides on grounds previously occupied by the aluminum can fabrication and assembly plant. Initially devoid of trees, the area is accented with new streetscape trees providing shade for circulation and open spaces. A small portion of land was carved out to create a dog park, addressing the needs of the dog-friendly Pearl apartment community. Using salvaged remnants from the brewery, the landscape architect developed a custom dog watering station. Salvaged concrete beams were reused as seating and play elements for the dogs and their owners.

Pocket parks were integrated into different wings of the apartments repeating brick paver blends and a custom concrete mix using fly ash to “rust” the concrete without adding color pigments to the mix. A recycled water cistern centrally located feeds the irrigation system for both the north and south buildings of the Can Plant Apartments and retail spaces.
